4.2 Stop and Call a Licensed Professional: Mandatory Triggers

STOP using this app's DIY guidance and call a licensed contractor or trade professional immediately if the repair involves any of the following:

• Electrical systems beyond replacing a lightbulb or a standard outlet, including any panel work, wiring work, or situations involving unfamiliar or older wiring.
• Natural gas or propane lines, connectors, valves, or appliances. Any gas work requires a licensed plumber or gas technician.
• Structural elements: load-bearing walls, beams, joists, foundations, or any element that supports the structure's weight.
• Plumbing involving supply lines, drain-waste-vent systems, or work behind walls.

4.3 Emergency Triggers: Call 911 Immediately

Stop work and call 911 or local emergency services if you encounter any of the following:

• Gas smell or suspected gas leak. Do not use light switches or phones inside; evacuate first.
• Electrical sparks, burning smell, or any sign of electrical fire.
• Active, uncontrolled water intrusion threatening structural elements or electrical systems.
• Carbon monoxide alarm activation.
• Any sign of structural failure: cracks opening, walls moving, floors deflecting.
• Any other immediate risk to life or property.

4.4 General Safety Precautions

For any DIY work: turn off power at the breaker and verify with a non-contact voltage tester; shut off the water supply before plumbing work; wear appropriate PPE (safety glasses, gloves, dust mask, hearing protection); work with a partner when possible; read all product instructions before using any chemical or compound; and follow all local building codes and permit requirements.
